KLAMATH FALLS — Oregon Tech had no answer for Southern Oregon’s middles Tuesday at Danny Miles Court, where the No. 10-ranked Raiders took care of the Owls in three sets for their 31st consecutive win in the head-to-head series.
With the 25-21, 25-22, 25-16 sweep, SOU went to 12-0 overall and 5-0 in the Cascade Conference going into home matches Friday and Saturday against Warner Pacific and Multnomah. Makayla Hoyt had another ultra-efficient night with a match-high 12 kills on 16 attacks and Elliott Cook went for eight kills on 16 attacks. Between them, the sophomore middles committed just two errors, combining for a .500 attacking average.
The Owls dropped to 7-5 and 2-3, losing to the Raiders on their home court for the 17th straight occasion. Their all-star hitter, Chase Bohman, recorded 11 kills but they hit just .185 as a team and were haunted by 11 service errors compared to one ace.
All three frames were tight, but SOU ended the first on a 5-2 run, the second on a 4-0 run and the third on a 16-6 run.
Kiley Barcroft’s 11 digs, Emma Ryan’s eight and Myla Norvell’s six helped to slow down the Owls. Natalie James finished with 13 assists and five digs, and Dani Johnson and Nila Lukens contributed six kills each.
For Hoyt, it was the fifth time this season she’s hit over .500 with at least nine kills.
The Raiders are five wins away from matching the best start in team history.
