AHS tennis teams slip to second at districts

Churchill overtook Ashland for the boys and girls titles Friday at the Eugene Swim and Tennis Club.

The Ashland boys doubles team of Jeff Laskos and Chas Barnard lost the title match to Jesse Diamond and Lukas Holasek of Thurston in one of the longest matches of the day.

Diamond and Holasek lost the second set and trailed in the third only to come back for a win in the tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5).

Both teams advance to state Thursday at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center in Tualatin and West Hills Racquet and Fitness Club in Portland.

The Ashland girls were the defending district champion and went unbeaten in league. The Grizzlies advanced four doubles teams and singles players to the quarterfinals, where they all were defeated, ending their state hopes.
