Cotton leads AHS girls golfers to team victory

    Ginny Cotton shot a 95 to earn medalist honors and power the Ashland High girls golf squad to a team victory in a six-team tournament Tuesday at Stoneridge Golf Course in Eagle Point.

    Also for Ashland, Sophia Rooney and Suttyn Barats both shot a 105 to tie for third overall, Luna Alvarez shot a 128 and Emily Robinson a 129.

    Ashland’s Brook Hall played nine holes and shot a 61 to finish fourth.

    The Grizzlies next will compete in a tournament Monday at Lake Shastina Golf Course in Weed, California.

    Boys Tennis

    Ashland’s Rox Rogers earned another quick victory to help the Grizzlies shutout St. Mary’s 8-0 in a nonleague dual at Hunter Park on Tuesday.

    Rogers, Ashland’s No. 1 singles player, trounced Prathew Weerakoon, 6-0, 6-1.

    In the most competitive match of the day, Ashland’s No. 4 singles player Charlie Burr edged Carson Grebosky, 6-3, 0-6, 10-6.

    Prep Baseball

    Ashland's game at Springfield, scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed after a rain shower left the field unplayable. 

    The Midwestern League game has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. today, in Springfield.

    The two teams are also scheduled to square off in a doubleheader Saturday in Ashland.
