Services for C.W. Smith set for Monday

    Services for former sheriff and Jackson County Commissioner C.W. Smith, who died June 10 at age 71 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease, are planned for Monday, July 2.

    A funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church, 600 Beebe Road, Central Point, followed by an honor guard ceremony at 1 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery, 2763 Riley Road, Eagle Point.

    A remembrance is planned afterward at Eagle Creek Estate, 1404 Brownsboro-Eagle Point Highway, Eagle Point.

    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97239-3009.

    Smith served 12 years as Jackson County sheriff, from 1983 to 1995, and in 2004 was elected to the Board of Commissioners, where he served for eight years.

    Smith is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gina Smith; sons Nathan Smith (Monica) and Morgan Smith (Kay); daughter Kristen Smith (Cat); grandsons Asher, Eric and Thomas; sister Wanda Morris (David); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and one great-great-nephew.
