Maurice Woodard covers Justin Bieber and Frank Sinatra and everyone in between.
The "one-man band," as he's frequently called, plays country, jazz, reggae, pop and blues.
"I play steel drums so I can do reggae," he says. "I play electric and folk guitar so I can play bluegrass and blues, and I play keyboards and organs so I can cover your contemporary balladeers."
Before he was drafted into the Army in 1964, Woodard was a studio music director for several Chicago Motown acts. Later, he was a Baptist minister, and his repertoire primarily was gospel music.
Lately, Woodard has been playing solo gigs around Southern Oregon. He'll play at 6 p.m. Friday, June 13, at The Beanery, 1602 Ashland St., Ashland. The show is free. Call 541-488-0700.
