The Southern Oregon lacrosse team pulled out an impressive 23-5 win over Humboldt State on Saturday at University Field.
Bubba VanEgdom led the scoring for the Raiders with eight goals. Several freshmen scored their first varsity goals as head coach Mark Brown substituted freely in the second half. Tyler Baumann (four assists) and Lump McQuown (two assists) spread the ball out freely, allowing the Raiders to take several uncontested shots.
Southern Oregon's play was marred by penalties in the first half. In the second half SOU turned up its aggressiveness on offense, registering seven goals in the first five minutes. With a more controlled, but relentless attack on offense the Raiders were able to put the game out of reach in the third quarter.
Both starting goalie Carter Boggess and reserve goalie Greg Morelli played well for SOU, making clutch saves.
SOU next plays No. 17 Western Washington University and No. 8 Westminster College (Utah). A sweep of both teams could land SOU in the top 10 for the first time in team history.
